Pocket irrigation is a minimally invasive treatment for gum disease. Food, plaque, and other debris are gently removed from between the teeth with a pocket irrigation device to keep the periodontal pockets clean. Arestin® is an antibiotic used as a treatment for periodontal disease. This powdered medication is placed in infected gum pockets after scaling and root planing procedures. A frenum or frenulum is a small piece of tissue that attaches either the upper lip to the gum tissue or the tongue to the floor of the mouth.
